14 homemade essential oil gifts for the holidays

With Christmas and the holidays right around the corner, many of us are clamoring to find perfect gifts for those very special people in our lives. However, it can become a challenge to buy something for someone that seems to already have everything, right? So, how do you find the perfect gift?

Today, we will go over 14 easy to make DIY essential oil recipes that make perfect and unique gifts. Not only will you be giving them a heartfelt gift that you worked on yourself, you are also gracing them with the many benefits essential oils have to offer. These gifts will definitely not go to waste or end up at the bottom of the closet once all the excitement of the holidays is over.

1. Homemade Roller Bottles

A homemade roller bottle with essential oils is a great gift for someone who loves having the power of aromatherapy at home and on the go. This kind of application is safe to use and easy to make.

To make a roller bottle, you will need to get your hands on a roll on bottle. There are stainless steel roller balls as well as plastic roller balls. You always, however, want to be sure you use only a glass roller bottle for your essential oils otherwise the sunlight may destroy the integrity of the oils.

Next, you need a carrier oil. Coconut oil has a great shelf life and is a great option for a roller bottle. Then you need a single essential oil or a blend of essential oils. Lavender essential oil, for example, is good for stress relief while lemon and eucalyptus have immune boosting properties.

Fill your roller bottle with approximately 10 ml of your carrier oil and then add a few drops of your essential oil then you are done!

If you are feeling adventurous, try blending oils to make a totally unique and personal gift.

No time to prepare? Utama Spice has three amazing essential oils rollers to chose from.

2. Homemade Scrubs

For another easy, homemade gift, you can also try your hand at homemade scrubs. Not only do they feel and smell wonderful, there are also many benefits for one’s health and skin. These scrubs can remove the dead layer cells on the surface of the skin, leaving your skin feeling smooth.

To make the scrub you just need an exfoliant such as sea salt, sugar, ground coffee, or oatmeal and a carrier oil, almond oil, grapeseed oil, and coconut oil are a few great choices.

Then comes the essential oils:

  • For normal skin – 10 drops of lavender, 6 geranium, and 4 ylang-ylang.
  • For oily skin – combine 8 drops of sandalwood, 6 lemon, and 6 lavender.
  • For dry skin – use 8 drops of sandalwood, 6 geranium, and 6 rose.
  • For sensitive skin – use 6 drops of chamomile, 4 drops of rose oil, and 2 drops of neroli.

These should be added to approximately 1/3 cup of your carrier oil.

3. Creative Bath Bombs

For the bath lover on your list, you can make bath bombs by combining a cup of baking soda, ¾ cup of citric acid, ¾ cup of Epsom salts, 4 tablespoons of coconut oil, and 10-12 drops of your chosen essential oils. This mixture should be placed in a metal bath bomb mold to set.

4. DIY Lip Balms

For lip balm gifts, simply combine cocoa butter, coconut oil, and almond oil to a double boiler. Stir frequently as the oils melt and combine. Add a citrus essential oil such as orange, lemon or lime to the mixture and stir. Transfer the mixture into small jars or tins and cool before closing the lids.

5. Powerful Hand Scrubs

For a powerful hand scrub, combine sugar, olive oil, and lavender essential oil in a mason jar. Stir well and add oil as you see fit. This is a simple easy gift you can make for several people and doesn’t take much time to get done.

6. Bath Oil Gift Set

To make a bath oil gift set, fill a two ounce dropper bottle with the carrier oil of your choice and leave some space at the top to add in your essential oils. This gives you a 2% dilution. Again, you can choose whatever essential oils you want, so this gift can be easily customized for the people on your list.

7. Bath Soaks

For a relaxing bath soak gift, combine 4 drops of lavender with 3 drops of cedarwood and place in amber glass bottles. You can create a number of combinations using different oils. This gift set will help create an amazing bath soak gift set that will help the recipient relax and soak away their stress. All they need to do is add a few drops to their bath water before getting in.

8. Sweet Dreams

For a cream to help the insomniac on your list drift out to dream world, combine ½ cup coconut oil, ½ cup shea butter, 1 teaspoon Vitamin E oil, 15 drops of lavender and cedarwood.

9. Scented Room Sprays

In a spray bottle, combine 15 drops of your chosen essential oil, add one teaspoon of salt, and stir the mixture. Fill the rest of the bottle with water and you have a scented room spray everyone will love.

10. Mason Oil Candles

Who doesn’t love candles? Melt soy wax over low-medium heat and then add up to 100 drops of your favorite essential oils. Make sure to anchor a wick at the bottom of the mason jar by pouring a small amount of wax in and then pour the remainder of the wax mixture into the jar.

11. Essential Oil Perfume

Take 20 drops of a base essential oil like vetiver or ylang-ylang and add it to 30 drops of rose, lavender, or geranium with 15 drops of bergamot or orange essential oils. This makes a beautifully scented and natural perfume.

You can also mix 4 ounces of vodka, with 20 drops of orange, 20 drops of peppermint, and 30 drops of frankincense for a holiday inspired essential oil perfume.

12. Aromatherapy Playdough

For this adult version of aromatherapy fun for stress relief, combine 1 cup flour with ½ a cup salt, 2 teaspoons cream of tartar, 1 cup water, 1 ½ tablespoons of olive oil, and 8 drops of your essential oil. You can then color the playdough with food coloring.

13. Homemade Soap Gifts

Homemade soap is a great way to save money while reducing the amount of potentially harmful anti-bacterial chemicals we use every day.

14. Bath Salt Ornaments

Lavender and orange are great essential oils to use for relaxation while promoting a good nights sleep. To make these ornaments, combine 2 cups Epsom salt, 2 tablespoons baking soda, a few drops of peppermint oil, and red food coloring (optional) and then place the mixture into plastic bulb ornaments.

Hi, this question may sound weyrd, but why do we need to use a carried oil for the first gift(I mean the roller bottle)? is it posible to fill the bottle only with essential oils?thanks!

    • uts_admin
      by uts_admin

That wouldn't be recommended. Essential oils are concentrated and shouldn't be used directly on the skin.
