3 Essential Oils For Spring Cleaning

3 Essential Oils For Spring Cleaning

What we put in our environment is as important as what we put in our bodies. If we are committed to living a healthy, natural lifestyle, why would we choose to clean our homes with toxic chemicals? This season when you start your spring cleaning, make sure to also clear your home of dangerous cleaning products and replace them with a natural alternative.

Essential oils are a great alternative to chemical products. Many of them have powerful anti-bacterial, anti-viral, and anti-fungal properties, that will not only keep your home clean but will keep your family safe.

Here are three essential oils to keep in your pantry, and advice on how to use them for cleaning your home.

Tea Tree Essential Oil

Tea tree essential oil is a powerful anti-microbial that has some really amazing uses around the home. First, you can easily create an all-purpose cleaner by adding ten drops of tea tree oil to ½ liter of water mixed with a ⅛ liter of vinegar. You can use this spray on counter-tops, windows and furniture.

You can also create a great bathroom cleaner by adding bicarbonate of soda to your all-purpose cleaner. This will help remove hard-water and soap scum and kill any mildew. Finally, Tea tree oil is a great addition to laundry. Add 3 drops to a load of laundry to remove any bad odors. You can also run your laundry machine empty with a few drops of tea tree essential oil every few months to clean it.

Lemongrass Essential Oil

Lemongrass also has powerful anti-microbial properties and can be used to clean surfaces in your home. One of our favorite uses is as a floor cleaner. The recipe is simple, but you’ll be amazed at the results. Lemongrass is also amazing for purifying the air, and will also help ward off any pests that try to enter your home.

Rosemary Essential Oil

Rosemary is also another powerful anti-microbial. Rosemary is a great cleaning product to use in the kitchen to ward off food-borne illness. You can make a homemade dish soap by mixing 1 liter of water, ¼ liter of Castile soap, a tbsp of bicarbonate of soda, and 30 drops of rosemary essential oil. You can also use this soap to clean counter-tops and to deodorize the inside of your refrigerator.

Amazing Cleaning Powers

With amazing cleaning powers of these great oils, you should always keep them on hand. Just remember that not all essential oils are the same and to really get results make sure you are buying 100% pure essential oils like our essential oil line at Utama Spice.

Tea tree is one of my favorite essential oils--so many uses. I find it's actually less expensive to use bulk ingredients like vinegar and baking soda, than buying the chemical-laden, commercial products. I'll give rosemary essential oil a try with housecleaning this Spring.

I am new to essential oils and was wondering what could help with old stale cigarette smoke? People that lived here before us smoked and I just can't get anything to cover it.

Is tea tree oil dangerous for dogs?

When used in moderation in a diffuser, or when diluted in room cleaner, air freshener or other household remedies, tea tree oil should be safe for pets. However, you should take the same precautions as with any new substances introduced into the home, and monitor pets and family members for sensitivities. Although, tea tree oil dilutions are sometimes used directly on dogs to treat fleas and other pests, we don't as a company endorse this use without the supervision of a vet.
