Ritual Monday: the two-minute face ritual that begins with warm palms
Some rituals take an hour. This one takes two minutes, and it is the one most people skip.
Before you pat serum onto your face, warm it. A few drops of face oil or serum straight from the dropper onto cold skin is a shortcut, not a ritual. Rub it between your palms first, ten seconds is enough, and the oil changes: it thins, it warms, and it spreads across the skin instead of sitting on top of it. Body heat is doing real work here, lowering the viscosity of plant oils just enough that they glide rather than drag.
We use our Immortelle Helichrysum Face Serum for this most mornings. Helichrysum has a long history in Mediterranean and now Balinese-inspired skincare for calming stressed, uneven-looking skin, and warming it first means every drop reaches skin that is ready to receive it, rather than beading on the surface.

Here is the two-minute version:
- Cleanse and pat skin barely damp. Damp skin holds moisture differently than dry skin, and oil spreads more evenly across it.
- Warm two to three drops between your palms. Rub gently for a slow count of ten.
- Press, do not rub, into skin. Start at the center of the face and press outward, giving your palms a moment of contact with your cheeks, jaw, and forehead before you move on.
- Pause. Take one breath before you reach for the next step in your routine.
The pause matters as much as the technique. This is the one part of the morning that asks nothing of you except to be present with your own hands for a moment. In a culture that has always treated skincare as a form of care rather than a checklist, that pause is the point, not a side effect.
The takeaway: warmth is not a luxury step, it is a mechanical one. Cold oil sits, warm oil absorbs. If you want to see where this ritual fits into a fuller routine, we walk through the order that actually matters in how to layer natural skincare.
