Face Washing Tips For Radiant Breakout-Free Skin
We all dream of having healthy, glowing, acne-free skin. However, achieving perfect skin can be a challenge. There are so many different types of products and so much advice on what to do, it’s hard to find the right path. So we thought we’d put together some basic tips that can help keep your skin radiant. These tips are all small things that add up make a big difference in the health and appearance of your skin. Here are ten face washing tips to keep your skin supple.
Tip 1: Stick With Natural Ingredients
Many of the popular drugstore brands of skincare contain chemical ingredients. These ingredients can strip, damage, and irritate your skin. On the other hand, skincare ingredients derived from natural sources like botanicals and plants enrich your skin. For example, most anti-acne drugstore products use things like harsh chemicals and thick oils that can damage your skin. While a natural acne wash like our Acne Face Wash uses ingredients like tea tree oil to kill acne causing bacteria, turmeric to reduce swelling, and lemongrass to remove excess oil. All of these ingredients nourish the skin.
Tip 2: Learn Your Skin Type
Before selecting your natural product, it’s good to know your skin type. Every skin type has different needs. The more you understand about your skin’s needs, the more likely you are to select a product that helps enhance those natural qualities. The most common skin types include:
- Oily
- Dry
- Moderate
- Combination
For example, if you have naturally oily skin, your skin will be more likely to have a high degree of natural moisture. So you do not want to use a thick moisturizer as it can create buildup and block pores. On the other hand, if you have naturally dry skin, you want to make sure that you use a heavy moisturizer to help replenish the natural oils you have lost.
Tip 3: Remove Your Makeup First
Once you have your products selected and you are ready to wash, make sure to first remove your makeup. Makeup mostly uses oils as their base product. When you wash before removing your makeup, you can just end up spreading your makeup around your face. To remove makeup, the best product you can use is another oil. We personally recommend using Virgin Coconut Oil to remove makeup. It’s very effective but will also help nourish your skin.
Tip 4: Use Lukewarm Water
When you wash your face, always use lukewarm water. Warmth helps break up dirt and oil, so cold water is not effective to clean your face. While water that is too hot can cause irritation and ultimately dry out your skin. Lukewarm water is perfect. It’s warm enough to melt off the dirt and debris, but will not lead to dry skin.
Tip 5: Use Your Fingertips
There are a lot of sponges, wash cloths, and devices marketed for washing your face. However, the best tool you have to wash your face is your fingertips. Your fingertips can help glide the product without scratching or damaging the surface of your skin. They’re also great for getting into the tight corners like around your nose and your jawline. Just make sure before you wash your face, you wash your hands. That way you won’t inadvertently transfer acne-causing dirt and bacteria to your face.
Tip 6: Resist The Urge To “Scrub”
When our faces are really dirty, it can be tempting to scrub your face hard. Though this will feel good at the moment, it can be damaging to your skin. Too much friction against the skin can cause irritation which can dry your skin out, cause inflammation, and even lead to more acne. Instead, give yourself time to gently and intentionally massage your face. Massaging will help the product work but won’t stress out your skin.
Tip 7: Limit The Number Of Times You Wash A Day
It’s healthy to wash your face everyday to remove any dirt or grime. However, if you wash your face too often, it can strip your skin of its natural oils. This can lead to dryness, irritation, and inflammation. Instead, stick to washing your face in the morning and evening. Then only when necessary if for example you’ve gotten dirt or other debris on your face. Washing at this pace will keep your natural oils in balance and help you have glowing beautiful skin.
Tip 8: Pat Your Skin Dry
Once you have finished washing your face, you will need to then dry it. When drying choose a gentle microfiber cloth that will help you avoid scratching the surface of your skin. Rather than rubbing the surface of your skin which can lead to drying and irritation, pat your skin dry gently. Patting your skin dry will also help ensure that you don’t remove any of your natural skin oils.
Tip 9: Apply A Gentle Moisturizer
Once you have dried your skin, you will want to apply a moisturizer. You want to be careful about your moisturizer selection. First, make sure your moisturizer works with your skin type. Then you will want to make sure that you use a natural moisturizing product. Drugstore moisturizers use thick, chemical-based oils that can damage the skin and lead to breakouts. Instead, consider a light serum. Our Natural Face Serum works with all skin types and uses a combination of essential oils to nourish and protect the skin.
Tip 10: Try New Products
Finally, once you’ve gotten a good skincare routine down, it’s good to stick with it for lasting results. However, our skin changes naturally as a result of environmental factors, age, and even diet. So when you start to notice these changes, go ahead and try something new that can help with these shifts.
