Sunday Reflection: what you give, you get back
On Sundays we slow down enough to name the principle underneath the work. Ours is short, and it has guided this brand since 1989: what you give, you get back. It is not a slogan. It is the quiet arithmetic behind every formulation, every partnership, and every refill we count.
Care returns in the same currency it is offered
When we source illipe butter and kukui oil, we are not only buying an ingredient. We are choosing to give steady work and fair value to the communities who wild-harvest them, and to leave the forest standing that grows them. What returns is not sentiment. It is better botanicals, harvested by people who have every reason to protect the source. Give to the land and the hands that tend it, and the land gives back a raw material worth putting on your skin.
The same logic runs through the Munti Gunung women’s program and our work with Forestwise. We give training, income, and dignity. We get back craft, trust, and a supply chain we can look at in full daylight. That is what we mean by proof over promise: the account is open, and the numbers are real. In 2025 alone, refills saved two thousand two hundred and forty-five bottles from landfill, one small choice at a time.

The ritual gives back too
This principle is not only for how we source. It is for how you live with what you make and use. The few minutes you give to a morning oil or an evening bath are not lost minutes. They return as a steadier nervous system, skin that feels tended rather than treated, and a small daily reminder that care is something you practice, not something you buy once. Reconnection, not perfection. Progress you can feel, offered a little at a time.
So this is the quiet truth we sit with today. You do not have to give everything to get something back. You have to give honestly, and give again tomorrow. If you want to feel this principle in a single ritual, our refill practice is a good place to begin: one bottle kept, refilled, and carried forward.
From Bali, with care.
